The Patience of Light
– BW Film Photography Project –
In a world that moves too fast, where we're constantly pulled toward the next thing, it’s easy to lose sight of the beauty right in front of us. We scroll, we skim, we pass by-  rarely stopping to really see. My black and white film photography is my way of slowing time down. Of breathing. Of coming back to myself.
Through a classic Canon AE-1 and a 50mm lens gifted to me by my late father-in-law, I return to a quieter, more intentional, internal way of seeing. Each frame captures a simple detail- something small, often missed- but always grounded in its surroundings. It’s in this delicate balance between the intimate and the vast that I try to capture not just what I saw, but what I felt.
Working with film requires patience. There’s no instant result, no endless clicking. Every shot is a decision, every image a moment I lived fully. Through the grain and contrast, the silence and texture, I rediscovered a sense of home- not just in photography, but in the act of noticing. Of being present.
In a time where our attention is constantly pulled in every direction- by screens, notifications, and the pressure to always be “on”- the simple act of being fully present has become rare. Film photography brings me back to that presence. It asks me to slow down, to look longer, and to connect more deeply- with the world, with the moment, and with myself. These photographs are glimpses into those moments- quiet windows into the world, and into a kind of clarity we’re often too distracted to find.
I am thrilled to have my project presented at Newton City Call from February 3 – 27, 2026.
My sincere thanks to the City of Newton and the wonderful Newton Cultural Development Department for this opportunity!
